The neck was fast and easy to play."Īm selling this NEW and comes with stand. When I received the Echotone, I was blown away at how much quality Hamer packed into a guitar in this price range. The pictures looked so stunning that I knew I had to have it. I started doing eBay searches until I found this slightly used Echotone that featured maple sides and back, a beautiful amber-flame maple top, bound f-holes and neck, a solid center block for sustain, and Seymour Duncan designed humbuckers. A few years back, I heard that Hamer came out with a budget, semi-hollowbody import line. I knew I had to have a 335-type guitar again. But we guitar players are a strange lot, and we eventually seek to replace all the nice guitars we let go during the folly of our youth. "I’ve owned Gibson ES-335s, 345s and 355s over the years, but, curiously, I let them all slip through my fingers at one time or another. See Hellecaster Will Ray's column in Guitar Player Magazine below. Many say this is why this Ecotone has the best reviews and competes if not beats its 335 competitor. Other than the gorgeous flamed maple top and gold hardware, the scale length is not 24.75, but 25.25 inches. This guitar was manufactured in Korea (serial number is 1702327)Īnd differs quite a bit from the garden variety Echotone. But the imports are credible rockers for when you need decent sound, look, and playability but also need to not worry about it getting trashed. I won't seek out any new import Hamers.the USAs are better, and fill out a collection better than the imports. Same with my 2nd generation Korean import Hamer Stellar 1. My SATF is an XT series, and as I indicated, I preferred it for the price:quality ratio than a Studio. The XTs are made in China, btw, but still seem very, very good. They have nice quilting, but the abalone binding around the body AND the fretboard edge is just too much.

HAMER KOREA SERIAL NUMBERS SERIES
They will have Hamer in big letters, XT or XT Series in little letters by the base of the R, and SATF or SATQ on the truss rod cover. These two generations were both made in Korea.ģrd best would be the current Hamer XT series SATFs. 2nd best, and very close in quality are the ones that just say 'Hamer' in big letters, nothing else, no USA or anything. So the best is any Studio/SATF you can find that has 'Hamer' in big letters with 'slammer series' in small letters under that. General consensus in the Hamer import fan crowd is that that imports got worse with each generation. There are still plenty of these via eBay. If anything, my SATF was less neck heavy than the Studios and Specials that passed through my hands as I worked out my guitar stable preferences. I might be buying a Korean-built Hamer Californian (27 fret version).ĭespite being an import, it has an AWESOME flametop. (4x the price for maybe 30% better sound). Not the equal of a Hamer USA Studio, but close enough that I felt it made better financial sense to keep it with its $200 price than the $800+ for a Studio. In 1997 Hamer began to move its Korean made import models from the Slammer Series into the Import Series - and moved production of the entry level Hamer. Great guitar, great sound even with just Duncan Design pickups. Has anyone else seen one of these? I wish I had bought it when I saw it - it was less than $300, IIRC. I had trouble even finding a google image of one, but it looked something like this, but right-handed: Sorry the pic is so small, but it's all I could find. I looked on eBay and Guitar Center's used site, with no luck.

I remember seeing one in a purple burst that looked really cool to me. Import Hamers, seemed to be great values. Ok, I remember seeing these at my local Sam Ash a couple years ago.
